Is sleeping an Olympic sport?
D Day-Jour J
We could not get near the British cemetery at Ver-Sur Mer for the D Day celebrations, it was under tight security as the King and President Macron were going to be visiting on the 6th. We visited St Mere Eglise on June 5 and saw the American Veterans parade. It was a humbling experience to be able to shake their hands and say thank you to them, even lovelier was all the reaction from the French, especially the children. We visited the British cemetery a few days later to see the sculptures which are there until August. Let's hope that after showing the service on the TV, more people will visit, as it is an amazing place.
Sleep is like the unicorn - it is rumored to exist, but I doubt I will see any - Dr. Seuss
After 20 years of
marriage, I have finally come to the conclusion that my husband is
rubbish in the bed department- I think I should clarify that by saying that I
mean the making of the bed.
His idea of making a bed is to just move the duvet around a bit so it does not look like someone is still in it. As I get older, I am like the Princess and the Pea and I cannot bear a bed that has a crinkly bottom sheet and is not tucked in properly.
It's so dark and so quiet here that we can easily sleep in all morning. I used to hear the post van at 9.30 but they now have electric cars so we don't wake up at all- even with a lumpy bed!
Farewell Kerry.
We sadly have had to say goodbye to our Caterham (Kerry).
We had many great trips in her throughout the Uk and France. It was such a great car for the lovely smooth and open french roads. Travelling in her was always a joy, though it could be tricky when you went away for 2 weeks and the boot was the size of a cardboard box. One Summer in the South of France, it was so hot it felt as though a hairdryer was blowing in our faces.
We stopped on one
occasion to get some shopping before returning to the UK (well, wine really).
Tim took the fully loaded shopping trolley from me and I waited for him and after
a while I wondered why he was taking so long to pack the car. When he
came back, he reminded me that we were in the Caterham, so packing the shopping
was a bit of a challenge, It just meant that I spent the whole journey back
with bottles of wine on my lap.
We have had to sell it
because it does not have a certificate of conformity for Europe so we cannot
get it registered here. By law, any car brought into France must be registered
within 6 months of arriving. We were incredibly sad as she disappeared down the
drive ( not on her own- she was in a trailer) and we can only hope that she goes to a good home that will love her as
much as us, though I can't believe they can get as many bottles of wine into
her as we did.
Olympics 2024 here I come !- well not really.
I have been selected to
be a volunteer for the Olympics- my role is a driver of the fleet of electric
cars that they will be using to move officials and members of the committee
round Paris during the Olympics
During the training we
drove the vehicles around Paris to get used to them and the navigational
systems that we will have to use. All was going well until I turned a corner
and the Arc de Triompe was in front of me and it has 15 exits!, fortunately
drivers on the roundabout have to give way to anyone entering it.
I am delighted that the
uniform is not beige but one size does seem to be expected to fit all. It was
designed by Decathlon and they seem to be under the impression that all the
volunteers are just under 6 foot. They were not designed for 5 foot 2, middle
aged women who are on the curvy side (and that's being kind), so a few
alterations will be needed.
Wish me luck!
My Sister Caroline sent me this!- don't you just love big sisters!
